Hollister Rally 2008
Hollister Independence Rally 2008
The Hollister Independence Rally for 2008 was a huge success for us. The rally started off slow on Friday but then quickly ramped up on Saturday and Sunday. We had a number of new customers from different states. Thanks to everyone who visited us!
The Hollister Motorcycle Rally Committee organized the event in conjunction with Horse Power Promotions. The rally setup was different this year. Vendors occupied San Benito Street (the main street) and some side streets. Bikers had to park and ride on the side streets surrounding San Benito street. VIP parking was also available for a small fee. The vendors and locals appreciated the new layout since it was easy to park, mingle and shop and eased overcrowding. Some bikers complained about the improved layout, but you can’t please everyone. We hope overall, the biker experience was a good one.

One other exciting new addition to the rally was the colorful mural painted by San Antonio artist, Ronald Rocha. The biker mural features Marlon Brando in full motorcycle regalia and is located in the alley next to Johnny’s Bar and Grill. |
Hollister Rally History
The Hollister Independence Rally commemorates the July 4th weekend in 1947 when over 4000 motorcyclists allegedly converged on Hollister causing a motorcycle "riot". Locals say this is greatly exaggerated.
Aurelio Zuñiga, retired owner of Progresso’s, who was 5 at the time of the invasion says he remembers a couple of bikers staying overnight in the family's barn.

The 1953 movie, the Wild One, starring Marlon Brando, loosely depicts this event. |
